Why do you lose points for posting a question?

  • Seems abit stupid as this whole website revolves around people asking questions.

Isn't that like ebay telling you off for putting an item up for sale.

  • When you ask a question, you lose points. You pay for asking for knowledge.

    I believe...

  • If you didn't loose points when you asked a question, you would have no need to answer anybody else's questions.

  • It does cost 5 points to ask a question, but if you choose your best answer you get 3 points back.
So asking a question can actually only cost 2 points.
You do get 2 points for each question that you answer.

  • The current point structure seems to maintain a good balance between questions and answers, which is why Yahoo does it. And in a sense, ebay DOES tell you off for listing an item - they charge you to post it, only their charges are real money.
