Thermos Flasks Prevent!?

  • How does a thermis flask prevent hree different types of heat convention, conduction and radiation.

  • The first answer is correct. Vacuum is what keeps the heat from transferring.

That is why the actual name of the item you are talking about is a "Vacuum Bottle" or Vacuum flask". Thermos is the company that invented it, and had the original patent on it.

Through the years, with Thermos being the only people who offered this item, the item itself became known as "a thermos" by common knowledge.

  • Through vaccum, heat can transmit through radiation only. Thermos has vaccum between inner and outer wall. Outer wall blocks radiation. Conduction is minimised by good heat insulator over which the flask touches namely bottom and top ring. Top cover is also a good insulator of heat and prevent further heat transfer.

Radiation has only minimal effect compared to conduction inside the flask.

Please note the flask is used to prevent heat loss for hot things and heat gain by cold things.
