R&P: Should Rock/pop be two separate categories?

  • I think so!
Us rockers can be rid of all their Jo Bro, Cyrus, and Disney crap and them tweenies can be rid of all our guitar, screamo, and oldies crap. The fans of the two areas just plain don't get along and probably never will. Yes/no?

Main Q: What's your favorite pre-2000 rock album of all time?

  • lol u should see my answer in another answer to another question. totally agree with u, yahoo answers doesn't seem to know a thing about genres outside of their own. they obviously never dwelled upon the wonders of progressive rock/metal, hell, they've never even heard of metal it seems. i don't get y jazz, country, and blues have their own section and pop and rock on the same place? how stupid can u even be?! they had a movie called "camp rock" and... what "rock?" i only see pop in there. disney is ruining rock rite now, cuz they're giving it really really false names. cyrus and jonas are both horrible posers who don't even deserved to be called pop. i would recommend to those people REAL rock bands like dream theater (the best prog artists ever), megadeth (who's actually not all metal -_-), metallica (leader of all metal actually), rush (another good prog), and just for the heck of it, joe satriani.

my fav. pre-2000 rock album of all time is images and words (1992 i think) by dream theater. under a glass moon had my all-time favorite solo, metropolis even had a whole album made with various references to it, and pull me under is such a mind blowing song

  • No. At the end of the day, rock is meerly a form of popular music. The people who think that "pop" is a term meerly for junk music need to look at their own tastes and see if it was ever in the charts. Pop is a term that is far older than rock and if I may say so, far more important than people give it credit for.

  • This question again?

  • Frankly I'd have to agree- I think POP is a silly, vague name anyway. Isn't most music "popular music"?

Anyway yeah, when I look for Cheap Trick and Jimi Hendrix CDs I don't need to sift through the High School musical section.

Favorite pre-2000 rock album of all time is a hard question but if I could cheat I'd say the triple-album compilation Queen I,II,and III.
