One of the key leaders of today's most cutting-edge church movement has opened an Internet discussion on the issue of same-sex marriage with the bold proclamation that he believes "gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual and queer" individuals can and should live out their sexuality in â “ and blessed by â “ the Christian church.

"I now believe that GLBTQ can live lives in accord with biblical Christianity (as least as much as any of us can!)," writes author and church leader Tony Jones, "and that their monogamy can and should be sanctioned and blessed by church and state."

Jones is an author and former youth pastor who holds a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary. He is also the national coordinator of Emergent Village, a loosely-formed friendship of churches that derive their descriptive name from having "emerged" from postmodernism to take the gospel of Jesus Christ into a post-Christian culture.

What are your thoughts on this?

  • Speaking of the Christian congregation the apostle Paul writes:

"For there will be a period of time when they
will not put up with the healthful teaching, but,
in accord with their own desires, they will
accumulate teachers for themselves to have
their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears
away from the truth, whereas they will be turned
aside to false stories." ~ 2 Timothy 4:3-4

  • since when do church officials start picking and choosing what they take literally? so, they believe the universe was literally created in 6 days, (because thats what the bible "says.") but now they can read into other things the bible says and "interpret" it as they wish?? no.
either you believe the bible is word-for-word literal or not, there is no picking and choosing--in my mind that completely invalidates anything that "church leader" says or thinks since he really can't make up his OWN mind about how he interprets "gods word"

added: anyone who calls themselves christian should accept and love people regardless of their life choices, (i.e. being gay) but to say that the bible preaches this is false--depending on how you intepret the bible...just because the bible says to love ALL does not mean it says that ALL choices are in accordance with the lord's teachings. but EVERYONE, christian and otherwise, should love people despite their life choices.

  • Yay! Hopefully this guy will open more Christians up to accepting others.

    -Roman Catholic Christian.

  • The Bible tells us that there will be tares in with the wheat. It says that they will be seperated during judgement and the tares will be put in the fire. 2 Timothy 4: 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

  • Good. I thought Christians were supposed to promote love and tolerance anyway, not bigotry and division.

  • I care not what Jones thinks.

  • It's a valid point, one that deserves more discussion. I'm not saying he's right or wrong because I have not studied the topic enough to know, but I think it's a viewpoint that deserves some consideration, and should not be immediately shot down.

Even though that's exactly what will happen.

  • Just shows how far from truth someone can fall once they reject the God-given authority of the true Christian Church.

  • It sounds like a ray of hope for non-heterosexuals to me. I already think that churches sound accept people for who they are. But I'm not sure how I think of the monogamy being sanctioned. God still doesn't seem too chummy about homosexual acts. Church accepting the monogamy of non-heteros sounds like a great, Christ-like idea, but I won't decide if I agree with it until I give it more thought.

  • Satan has been successful in deceiving mankind for thousands of years, he attacked the very first married couple and he is still attacking marriages today.
By distorting bible truths Satan continues to mislead mankind threw his false religious empire identified in the bible book of Revelation as 'Babylon the Great.'
God made his word very clear when is says in I Corinthians 6:9-11  "What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God⠙s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God⠙s kingdom."
Verse 11 says "And yet that is what some of YOU were. But YOU have been washed clean, but YOU have been sanctified, but YOU have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God."
You can only be washed clean, sanctified and be declared righteous IF you quit practicing these things, repent and turn around and follow Gods teachings, not Satan's teachings threw his organization fo false religion.
