Can i be sacked because someone said something untrue about me and i cant prove it is a lie ?

So, if you have been a troubled employee anyway (attitude, willingness to do extra, missed work, etc), they can use it as a quick way to get rid of you.
If you are a good employee, they will probably just write you up. You have the right to state your side, in writing, and if they ask you to sign something (verifying the disciplinary action) you can write in the signature space. My signature in no way construes admission of guilt for the mentioned action, I am signing to agree that I will do what is needed to keep my job. then sign it.
Many pre-printed forms have a space where you sign that indicates you agree to the punishment but disagree about the reason.
