Atheists: what do you believe happens after death and what do you think is the meaning of life?

  • I'm becoming an agnostic/atheist and I want to know what to believe in.


  • Oddly enough, the answer to both questions would be the same: Nothing.

  • Believe whatever you want to believe. You don't have to believe in a traditional "God" just to believe life has meaning. Don't pick something and conform to it, just believe what feels true to you.


  • as far as the meaning of life goes, I can only imagine that we are programmed to make more of us and think. Is that enough? that's up to you.

    What happends after death is obvoius, we are gone. Don't look at it as a bad thing, after all if we do what we are supposed to-- have kids and stuff-- we would want to make room for them by us dying. It's not fair to us humans to have hundreds of years old people, using up resources, not making more people and a general drag on society.


  • Nothing happens after death. There is no meaning to life.

    Slightly depressing, maybe, but atheism isn't about avoiding depression. It's about what makes the most sense logically-- that's atheism, by the way. By far.

    Anyways, either you believe in God or you don't. If you have to ask those questions, it means you're basing the decision regarding your potential "conversion" on more than just that basic fact.

    Agnostic is a different story. You don't need to believe anything. You don't need to know. You can avoid thinking about it. Kind of wishy washy, actually, unless you're an agnostic on your way to being something else. Agnosticism is just a transition period, in my mind...


  • "Atheist" can be synonymous to "non-believer". A non-believer does not believe that there is anything there after death - just nothingness, perhaps. But in my case I don't think about what's there after death, because nobody living can discover it unless they die and experience what it's like first-hand.

    And I believe that the meaning of life is YOUR meaning of life, so you make it yourself.

  • I'm no atheist, but consider this. The best result for a Christian is going to heaven. The worst result is simply death. An atheist's best result is death. Their worst result is going to hell. A Christian's worst result is an atheist's best result.

  • and what, exactly does this question have to do with cooking and recipes......I guess if one thinks of hell as Taco Bell, it fits in a strange sort of way.
