DivX;-) 3.xx Low-Motion video choppy/jerky

  • i am having trobule playing all my movies encoded with 'divx 3 low-motion'. they are very jerky, and unwatchable, i was able to play them fine with xbmp, and older builds of xbmc. i have tried the xvid fix on the forum, that has not fixed it.
i am using 06-06 build xbmc

  • is their a fix for this problem that works with the newest versions of the cvs? i cant find the no cache option and reducing the cache to 0 doesnt seem to fix it?

  • weird if mplayer for windows or xbmp plays it fine, you sure?

    100% sure.

i forgot to ask your build date of xbmc?, plus if you have an ntsc-m/j xbox and also a ntsc-m/j tv? frame-rate adjust disabled?

    6/11 build.

    i have a pal console set to pal60. i tried frame-rate enabled/disabled but didn't help.

    edit:

. i was able to fix my vids quickly using virtualdub (look for an off-distro version with ac3 support, if you need it). select original stream for both audio & video, and save.

that fixed the video. many thanks

  • 640x449 is what is called an illegal-resolution (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=64793&atid=508681&func=detail&aid=745204), (weird if mplayer for windows or xbmp plays it fine, you sure?), both horisontal and verical resolution must be devidable by 8 (or is it 4?) to get an even number (no comma, ex: devide 640 by 8 = 80, but 449 devided by 4 is 56.125)

ps! going by that (if that is the case for mplayer and xbmc) then 450 would be an illegal resolution too, (re-encode to 448 instead)

    gamester - it's 2 not 4 or 8 for divx.
xbmc's output code can handle any resolution.

  • divx is optimized for multiples of two in both dimensions, i'm surprised you can even encode a video with a 449 height - newer versions of the codec won't even do that. i'd suggest padding it to 450 in virtualdub or similar if possible.

  • fyi, official sourceforge bug-report: divx;-) 3.11 low-motion playback choppy/jerky => http://sourceforge.net/tracker....=959114 (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=87054&atid=581838&func=detail&aid=959114)

  • i have a problem with a 30 fps video that only displays 15 fps. here is the gspot info:

filesize.....: 213 mb (or 218,192 kb or 223,428,608 bytes)
    runtime......: 00:28:42 (51,617 fr)
    video codec..: divx 3 low-motion
    video bitrate: 901 kb/s
    audio codec..: 0x0055(mp3) id'd as mpeg-1 layer 3
audio bitrate: 128 kb/s, monophonic cbr
    frame size...: 640x449 (1.43:1) [~37:26]
    fps..........: 29.970

it's the only video of the 20 i have from the same tv show that has this problem. all videos are encoded the same way; the only difference between them is the resolution.

i can upload a sample if needed.

  • make sure high quality resampling (i think that is what it is called) is either set to off or audio only. make sure it is not video.

    ts

  • i didn't encode it :)

why xbmc can't handle it? xbmp and mplayer for windows can.
