Cannot access smb share on different computers wit

  • i have a strange problem while accessing smb shares over my network. my smb “servers” are connected to a lan with a single switch. my main smb share is on my windows 2003 server which is domain controller, dns and dhcp server too.

    ip 10.0.0.1
    subnetmask 255.255.255.0
    dns 10.0.0.1
    gateway 10.0.0.138 (xdsl router)

    connecting to share’s on that server using the following paths works fine.


    videoclips smb://soho.local;xbox:xbox@sohodc01/xdigitalvideo$/videoclips/


    videoclips smb://soho.local;xbox:xbox@10.0.0.1/xdigitalvideo$/videoclips/


    since my disk where full i moved some data to another server windows 2003 member server. this one is in the same subnet:

    ip 10.0.0.2
    subnetmask 255.255.255.0
    dns 10.0.0.1
    gateway 10.0.0.138 (xdsl router)

    when i try to access this server using the following paths it doesn’t work


    videoclips
    smb://soho.local;xbox:xbox@sohodc02/xdigitalvideo$/videoclips/


    videoclips smb://soho.local;xbox:xbox@10.0.0.2/xdigitalvideo$/videoclips/



    i get this error:

    17-12-2004 17:50:27 error smbdirectory->getdirectory: unable to open directory : 'smb://soho.local;xbox:xbox@sohodc02/xdigitalvideo$/'
    unix_err:'d' nt_err : 'c0000022' error : 'access denied'


    i’m really puzzled i think this is no dns problem since accessing the ip address directly also causes the same error. since it’s the same subnet on the same switch it’s also not ip routing. what’s left is authentication i already disabled smb signing on the default domain policy and restarted my servers, no luck at all.

    too me it looks like that the authentication is failing and for some reason the member server cannot verify the xbox account on the dc! does someone know if this is a bug an smb or a windows issue!?

    hi i couldn't find the topic? overnight this error was solved. :veryangry: (yesterday i even tried wins on my network without any luck). i think that the gpo which disabled the signing of smb traffic on 10.0.0.2 was also necessary . strange since it's that server only needs to verify the active directory xbox user, it’s not using smb for that! does someone knows what version of samba is used in xbmc (2.xx)?

    i’m glad it’s working again, but i would be happier being able to reproduce the error. now i have the feeling this can happen again any time. with computers that means random but just when you invite friends over to watch a movie after you told them how great the xbmc is.

    lesson big problems sleep a night over it! :idea:
