Play music on from xbox

  • ok this may end up being a feature request but i thought i would ask the question first.

    i keep all my mp3's on my 120gb xbox drive! but when i am in my study (one floor up) i am unable to listen to any of my tracks unless i ftp them to my pc :(

    does anyone know how i can play my tracks on my pc?

  • till there is another way to access the xbox hd over lan webdrive (http://www.webdrive.com/) might be an option for you.


  • some time ago i had a prog to build a "winshared folder" with a ftp-folder. then you can play songs from your ftp.
    the proggie is called "netdrive". i didnt test it yet.

    thanks i will give it a try although ftp is not the best protocol to be using for listening to music!

    it would be nice to smb feature built into xbmc! what web engine is xbmc using?


  • the only method xbmc has for serving files is ftp. so unless you can set your pc to play from an ftp source you're probably sol with regards to using xbmc. there may be fileserving apps for the xbox (maybe a webserver?) but i haven't researched it, and of course they would be external to xbmc.

    you're much better off putting the mp3's on your pc and streaming them to your xbox when you run xbmc. why don't you try that?

  • i tried webdrive, its ok.
    put some of your mp3's into the web directory and try streaming hte from there. you can get asp scripts that build playlists and read id3 tags etc..
